June 18, 2009 - Micro Power Supplies Carestream Health with Battery and Charger for Medical Imaging Device

June 18, 2009 - Micro Power, the global leader in portable power solutions for mission-critical equipment, today announced that it has been awarded the supplier of Lithium-polymer battery packs and chargers for the new CARESTREAM DRX-1 System detector.
The DRX-1 system detector allows the user to capture digital radiography images using conventional x-ray equipment and procedures, so disruption, downtime and training is minimal. The wireless battery-powered detector provides the cordless positioning freedom of a conventional cassette. As the world’s first wireless cassette-sized DR detector, it simply slides into the table or wall-stand Bucky, or can be used for tabletop projections, just like a traditional cassette. The remarkably thin form factor and extremely light weight of eight and a half pounds is enabled in large part by the use of a state of the art Lithium-polymer battery pack provided by Micro Power.

The revolutionary design of the DRX-1 system includes on-board rechargeable battery, which captures 70 to 90 images on a single charge, which represents over four hours of use with an average imaging workload. This Lithium-polymer battery pack is a mere quarter inch thick and contributes only about 2/3 lb to the overall weight of the system. The external battery charger simultaneously recharges up to three DRX-1 system batteries. The charger provides status-of-charge LEDs to indicate the charge status. An optional power/communications tether connects to the battery charger for trickle charging when the detector is used in a Bucky.

“Designing a wireless, cassette-size detector demanded not just a compact form factor but also development of extremely efficient, compact onboard battery power," said Todd R. Minnigh, Worldwide Director of Marketing Digital Radiography at Carestream Health Inc. Micro Power provides Carestream with a battery pack that utilizes state-of-the-art high-capacity lithium polymer technology, which provides greater power and longer life.”

“This partnership signifies a new and successful relationship between Carestream Health Inc. and Micro Power; the battery pack has been custom built to its demanding specifications, and the resulting product provides Carestream with a product that is revolutionary in the industry," said Greg T. Love, President and CEO of Micro Power.
